Win a bike, give a bike

By Laurel Haas on May 1, 2012 | Category: News | 2 Comments

Tony Alparone of Union City was one of 3 winners of a gift certificate for a bike, in our April bike giveaway for commuting incentive program participants in celebration of Earth Day week.  Gift certificates for bicycles were awarded to an associate in each location to encourage associates to try biking as transportation. Tony has decided to use the gift certificate to donate a kid’s bike to the fire department in Modesto, California, to use as a prize for one of their neighborhood festivals. Since Tony already has a bike, he thought it would be nice to donate a bike to someone else.

Tony is active in his community and has donated prizes to the Fire Department in the past. He volunteers at school events in his community as well. “I carpool everyday”, Tony says, and he is a regular participant in the Commuting Incentive program, and has previously won the monthly gift certificate. He says he likes carpooling as it’s nice to be able to relax when he’s not the driver. When I asked Cynthia Shavies, who works with Tony in the Supply Chain Department about Tony’s donation, she said, “Tony’s a great guy. I wouldn’t have expected him to do anything else”.

Union City also celebrated Earth Day by collecting 622 pounds of clothing–from both associates and community members–to donate and recycle on Friday April 20th. Members of the Bend Office celebrated by cleaning up a neighboring road, and LaPorte worked with the Alliance for the Great Lakes to clean up trash from shorelines.

I wanted to share a funny story. I love snaps except for the pink ones. I had to prove that I could tell the difference between them. So I never eat the pink ones. My new dog was begging for one so I gave him a pink one, well I could have won a million dollars with his reaction. He would not eat it. We did discover he would eat the other colors. We have tested this many times and he will not eat the pink ones! I wish I could buy then by there color. Sincerely jo
